Our Mission
2010 saw exceptional progress made in our research to detect and develop markers for early-stage detection of ovarian cancer. The addition of staff and a major new equipment platform has accelerated all aspects of our research, and in addition to ongoing discovery projects we have now progressed to testing specific markers in a larger group of patients. For routine application, a screening test for ovarian cancer must achieve a minimum of 100% detection, with less than 0.4% incorrect diagnoses made. The high degree of sensitivity and specificity required therefore dictates that a screening test must use multiple markers, each capable of very high accuracy, working together to detect early stage disease. Our ongoing research projects are focussed on the analysis of bodily fluids, such as urine and plasma, to identify multiple, cancer-specific markers from patient samples. To this end a number of complimentary approaches are being undertaken, applying both existing and new technologies. With the development of novel approaches and the help of all patients who contribute samples, we have made substantial progress already and expect to accelerate our discovery and development programs moving into 2011. | | Our mission: 1. The development and implementation of an early detection program for ovarian cancer 2. Improving the mortality rate, management and long-term survival of women with ovarian cancer 3.
