Ben's Tribute

Tribute to a Mother: My Mum, the Soldier

From that first day, only washing dishes
I knew what I would do if I had three wishes
I could see you struggling with your fears
But all I could do was wipe your tears
Here was where you made your stand
With your finger, a line in the sand
So at those times your doubt almost took over
The purpose in your eyes sparked like an ember
As the beast tried to beat you down
With no armour you stood your ground
The pain continued with no end in sight
But still you fought with all your might
A slave to your body, your mind, it dug in
Battling sometimes, even to raise a grin
Your resolve you say came from friends and kin
When I truly believe it came from within
Now that the war is done
The count is in and you have won
The strength you have shown
Is like none I have known
And the person you have become
I am even more proud to call you my mum.
