Roslyn, 62 years

In February 1999 - one month before our first grandchild was born - I went to my GP for a regular pap smear. My astute GP thought I was 'bulky' and suspected fibroids, so ordered an ultrasound. This led to a CT scan that afternoon and a diagnosis of ovarian cancer very soon.

Within three weeks I had visited an Oncology Gynaecologist and was scheduled for a complete hysterectomy. At 53 I didn't mind that prospect but was not looking forward to chemotherapy. Thankfully it was not needed! I was borderline Stage III and have been cancer-free ever since.

Whilst I don't really think I had any symptoms, I guess my tummy was rather bloated and I lacked energy for some time.

How lucky I am and not a day goes past where I don't thank God for my wonderful GP.
