7 weeks into a year long backpacking trip around the world with her partner, 24 year old Tora Murphy was diagnosed with stage 3C mucinous ovarian cancer. Not only was this diagnosis the shock of a lifetime, it ignited a spark in herself as well as her family and friends to raise awareness and do what they could to stop this happening to other young women.

On Friday the 25th October Tora’s partner and a group of her friends will be walking 100km in 24 hours from The Gold Coast to Byron Bay.

The goal is to raise $24k in 24 hours for 24 year old Tora.

Established in 2000, the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) has grown to become Australia’s leading independent body dedicated to funding national ovarian cancer research.

Unfortunately due to lack of research and underfunding, ovarian cancer statistics have not improved in 30 - 50 years. It remains that 70% of women are diagnosed at a late stage due to vague symptoms and lack of any early detection methods.

Tora has a rare subtype of ovarian cancer and there is currently no specific targeted treatment for it. Her diagnosis has unfortunately progressed to stage 4 as her treatment so far has been unsuccessful. This research could hopefully one day find a cure for her and many other women.

Cancer does not discriminate and can happen to anyone at any age. We hope to raise the essential funds to assist the OCRF in making a difference in women’s lives.

The funds will go towards the OCRF’s key research targets including -
Early detection
Prevention
Treatment
Managing recurrence

The efforts of this foundation are of great personal significance to Tora and the team doing this walk. Help us reach our goal!
