Paula’s Day set to become an annual event

Family and friends of Paula Calcagno, who passed away last year from ovarian cancer, gathered in her memory to raise both awareness and funds for ovarian cancer research.

Assunta Righi, along with her helpers Domenica and Grace, organised the heart-warming and intimate afternoon tea on July 6 at Federazione Lucana in Brunswick Victoria; raising an impressive $1,006.45 for OCRF.

Dr Maree Bilandzic, OCRF Ambassador and researcher at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research attended the fundraiser and provided valuable insight into the latest ovarian cancer research developments. Dr Bilandzic also stressed the importance of events like Paula’s Day in helping loved ones support each other when faced with loss, as well as the added benefit of raising awareness of and funds for ovarian cancer research.

The day, dedicated to honouring the life of Paula, consisted of an appetizing afternoon tea, ovarian cancer awareness building, storytelling and memory sharing. The group vow to always keep Paula’s memory in their hearts, and plan to make the special day an annual fundraising event: Paula’s Day.
