How you can use your #PowerfulVoices this month

Lucinda Nolan, CEO, OCRF

This month is an important one for all of us—a time when those affected by ovarian cancer around the world come together to raise awareness. Why? Because May 8 is World Ovarian Cancer Day—a moment that shines a spotlight on ovarian cancer in a collective effort to improve outcomes for all women.

The theme of World Ovarian Cancer Day 2020 is #PowerfulVoices, so we’re raising our voice around the need for more research on this insidious disease—one that has been silent for too long.

To help us, we need you to raise your voice too, here are some tips on how to get involved:

1. Fundraise for the White Shirt Campaign

The best way to get involved this May is to fundraise for our annual White Shirt Campaign.

We know it’s harder this year to get together to fundraise with friends, that’s why we’ve generated these at home fundraising tips.

Fundraising turns up the volume on ovarian cancer while supporting life-saving research. To get started, set up your fundraising page.

2. Spread the word on social media

To raise the voices of women affected by ovarian cancer, we need to speak out together.

One woman dies from ovarian cancer every 8 hours. With early detection, this will reduce drastically. But currently, there is no early detection test.

You can amplify this unacceptable fact by sharing the image below on your social media channels:

Or, let your friends and family know why you’re committed to life-changing research by filling this in and sharing on your Instagram Story and tagging @witcheryfashion and @ocrf:

3. DONATE DIRECTLY TO OVARIAN CANCER RESEARCH

A powerful way to directly impact ovarian cancer outcomes is to support our research.

Alongside increased awareness of this disease, research is important in ensuring that every woman, everywhere is free from the threat of ovarian cancer.

One of our key areas of research is to develop an early detection test. Most women will be diagnosed in later stages, meaning their 5-year survival rates are just 25%. With early detection, survival rates for women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will increase to 90%.

You have the power to make a difference this month, even from your home.

4. PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT FOR WOMEN WITH OVARIAN CANCER

Finally, stand in solidarity with people across Australia raising awareness about ovarian cancer and the need for more research by pledging to wear a white shirt on May 8.

Every voice added is another step toward ending the silence around this cancer that threatens women’s lives.
