AI-driven ovarian cancer research gets a further $1m USD boost

May 07, 2026

On World Ovarian Cancer Day, 8 May 2026, the Global Ovarian Cancer Research Consortium (GOCRC) has announced a major new investment to accelerate progress in urgently needed research.

The GOCRC—of which the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF) is a founding partner—has launched its second AI Accelerator Grant, committing USD $1 million, along with advanced cloud computing support from Amazon Web Services (AWS). This initiative will drive cutting-edge research using artificial intelligence to improve early detection, treatment, and survival outcomes for ovarian cancer.

Building on the success of its inaugural grant, the AI Accelerator grant program is designed to support ambitious, data-driven research projects led by international experts.  The grant is structured to bring together leading researchers from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States and support them to collaborate to tackle some of the most urgent challenges in ovarian cancer, including prevention, treatment resistance, and disparities in outcomes.

Artificial intelligence is transforming many areas of cancer care, and ovarian cancer must not be left behind. There is an urgent need for progress— according to the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition, global diagnoses are projected to increase by 55 per cent by 2050, affecting more than 500,000 women each year. Through initiatives like the AI Accelerator Grant, the Consortium is working to ensure AI unlocks new possibilities for earlier diagnosis and more effective treatments.

As part of the AI Accelerator program, the successful research team will also receive in-kind AWS cloud computing credits, enabling them to work within the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (USA)’s new AI-enabled Discovery Lab. This new collaborative platform will apply powerful computational tools to a growing data library, allowing researchers to analyse information in real time and work across borders more effectively than before.

“The GOCRC is helping to transform how ovarian cancer research is conducted—from isolated efforts to a connected, global model that accelerates discovery and maximises impact,” said Robin Penty, CEO. “There is such huge potential in this approach.  Ambitious initiatives like this will change the game and offer such hope to our community.”

The Global Ovarian Cancer Research Consortium brings together leading organisations, including the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (Australia), Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (United States), Ovarian Cancer Action (United Kingdom), and Ovarian Cancer Canada. Together, we are committed to increasing investment in innovative research, strengthening collaboration, and improving outcomes for people affected by ovarian cancer worldwide.
