Digga Australia's connection to ovarian cancer is personal, sadly, they lost their CEO and Managing Director, Suzie Wright in 2018 after a short battle with ovarian cancer.

Throughout her impressive career, Suzie was an inspiration to all for her strong leadership, dedication to her staff and her relentless support of Australian manufacturing. Suzie inspired many women and played a pivotal role in laying a solid foundation for the future growth of Digga Australia.

In the months and years after Suzie's passing, the Digga Australia team turned to funding ovarian cancer research to help improve outcomes for all those impacted by the disease. In 2023, Digga launched Cancer Socks, an initiative to raise funds and bring awareness to ovarian cancer.

2024 Theme: Research holds the key

The 2024 campaign will focus on research, featuring OCRF-funded researcher, Professor Carlos Salomon Gallo.

Ovarian cancer is the most lethal gynaecological disease with less than 50% of patients surviving more than five years after their diagnosis. With no early detection test and vague symptoms, it is often diagnosed late, making it difficult to treat. However, if detected early, particularly before symptoms appear, studies suggest the survival rate could increase above 90%.

That’s the goal for Professor Carlos Salomon Gallo (pictured right) and his team at the University of Queensland. Since 2017,the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation has been supporting Professor Gallo’s research into early detection. Over the years, the team has made several key discoveries leading to the development of a highly specialised blood test known as OCRF-7. The test detects a constellation of signals in the blood that indicate very early signs of ovarian cancer. Recently, Professor Gallo’s research attracted extra funding from the Australian Government to progress to further testing and trials.

This is one of 22 research projects currently supported by the OCRF, Australia’s leading independent funder of ovarian cancer research. Together, we will overcome ovarian cancer.
